BrowSmart

If you visit ten websites each day, for the latest news, you will get lost in ten different page layouts, if you won't be annoyed by advertisement pop-ups first. BrowSmart can filter websites, to show you nothing but their core contents. Instead of navigating on an uninspired web interface, you can retrieve the articles that interest you right away, in a simple and easy to read format.

The application is available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. It can be installed in a matter of seconds and you don't have to meet any special requirements. Moreover, BrowSmart is absolutely free and it won't bother you with any nag screen or reminders to upgrade to a paid version.

Although BrowSmart is basically a web browser, it does not display an address bar. Instead, it displays a website index, on the left half of the interface. Selecting a website will display a page index, in the same area of the interface and you can click a page to view its contents on the right half of the window. You can switch between the site and page indexes at any time, via navigation tabs and you can translate the titles instantly, with a single click.

All articles have the same layout, regardless of the selected website or page. Rather than displaying adds or other useless and annoying contents, BrowSmart displays articles as a simple block of text, with pictures if they are available. If an article is in a foreign language, you can translate it immediately, by clicking a button above the article. The target language can be selected on a separate window, on which you can also select a translation engine, like Google Translate or Yahoo! Babel Fish. It is also possible to print articles, save them as PDF documents or share them via email.

Contents from the supported websites are updated on a regular basis. The software can be set to update the contents automatically when you launch it or on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. If you are interested only in specific contents, you can filter websites and their sections, on a small window. Additionally, BrowSmart allows you to filter contents by keywords, on the same window.
